Welcome, Dr Alkesh Zala

Welcome to our newest clinical trial investigator, Dr Alkesh Zala! Dr Zala is a Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. In addition to his clinical work, he serves as a Staff Specialist at John Hunter Hospital and is a Conjoint Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle.

Dr Zala’s special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, oesophageal diseases, gastrointestinal motility disorders, and bowel cancer screening.

Dr Zala joins us as a sub-investigator of a clinical trial involving a new investigational treatment for eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE). EoE is an inflammatory disorder that causes difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) and food to become stuck in the oesophagus (food impaction). It is caused by a buildup of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in the lining of the oesophagus.
